Best Videos: How To Fly Fish for Tarpon

I’m going tarpon fishing in Boca Grande in a few weeks and, living a few hundred miles away, I’ve been knocking the virtual rust off by watching YouTube videos.

I thought I’d collect and share some of what I consider to the best tarpon fly fishing videos below.

But these are just mine: what are yours? Leave a link in the comment below! (I didn’t include any of the “Silver King” series intentionally, if only because there are so many of them.)

It is what is says on the tin, as the saying goes: how to rig for tarpon.

Some simple tips on how to fly fish for tarpon.

Keep calm and don’t trout set. Strip strike like you’re lassoing a bucking bull, because that’s what’s about to be on the end of your line.

Want to hook a tarpon only to lose it when the line wraps around — your leg, your reel? Trust me — it’s not enjoyable.

Beyond skiing, sporty wives and tarpon, perhaps Andy Mill’s most famous contribution to tarpon fishing is how he thinks we should fight them. This is worth watching, trying, and remembering.

I remember first learning about which tarpon to present the fly to and it changed how I approach the sport.  So simple, so helpful.

A good knot is important for tarpon — and, while this video has some focus issues, it does a good job making the knots big enough for you to follow.

Want to catch big fish? Know how to handle them to leave some for the rest of us.

Because one Andy Mill video surely isn’t enough.

Not a “How To” but beautiful.
