In preparing for this season, I’ve been going through photos from past seasons and came across these. They were taken in Maine on day with some high surf following a summer storm. My dad (6′ 4″ or so) was jumping into and out of the waves, and getting drenched. I was playing with some longer exposures, to get the water moving.

In the end, the Sage Salt HD and the Rio Coastal Quickshooter XP was my favorite saltwater combination of 2017. Once spring rolls around, and stripers start feeding again, I’ll keep reaching for it. It’s just that good.

This past weekend, I went out chasing false albacore off Cape Cod with my dad and a friend. The morning lit up with albies immediately, and stayed pretty strong all day, with only a brief pause around slack tide. I’m not always one to count, but I think we boated close to 20 albies. What a day — and what a beautiful day!
