Many of you have already heard, but the downtown Boston Orvis location will soon be shutting it doors. For those who work or live downtown, this is bad news, regardless of what you think of the large fishing company.
In the short-term, the only good news is that the location is having a store-closing sale. Clothing is marked down 50-60%, while all the fly tying equipment is 20%. Some of the reels and one set of rods are also on sale, as are other accessories.
As of today, there was still a fair amount of stock left in the store. I suggest you head down and check it out: I walked out with a bag full of clothing and tying equipment for $50 and change today. For the quality of what I chose, that was a great deal.
Ty, the store manager, will be moving back to the Dedham store, where he’ll be the fishing manager. This is good news for the dedham regulars, as Ty is one of the nicest guys around.
Boston anglers, meanwhile, are definitely facing a loss: where will they go? Concord Outfitters, The Bear’s Den and First Light are all somewhat close, but can’t rival the lunch time or after work convenience of a downtown Boston fishing store. I hope it’s not too long before another one opens — though I fear it might be.
