The forecast for retail sales in the US is grim. With Covid-19 forcing store closures, one forecast is calling for more than $150 billion to be lost in retail sales in April, following the $100 billion lost in March, creating an “existential threat” for discretionary retailers. The good news, perhaps? Some news outlets are covering fly fishing as a potentially good way to social distance. Either way, now is more important than ever to shop local and support the businesses you care about.
For one, New England’s own PostFly, a part of the Recur Outdoors brands, has created a campaign called #savetheseason in which 100% of the funds donated will go to support guide that fly on their fishing income. It’s a cool idea, and they have nice looking gear to go with it. Check it out at: savetheseason.org
For more local shops and business, here’s a quick summary of fly fishing businesses based in New England. Please support them!
And, of course, shop at your local fly shop — and support your favorite local guide!
Please add the Compleat angler in Darien, CT those guys are the best.
Hey Hunter! I agree — love The Compleat Angler. I post reviews to their site sometimes, and have worked with them a bit. I didn’t call out all of the fly shops in New England in this post, but I did link to my list of New England fly shops. Agreed we should all support them! Cheers, Ben
Hi Ben. Good blog. See you at the club in the fall. I’d strongly recommend the Bear’s Den fly shop right in Taunton. Truly one of the best shops in our country and Scott is a great supporter of many great causes promoting fly fishing and conservation. Tight lines, Tony
Agreed, a great shop!
