In motoring out to the famous Montauk point, we found the title scene to Peter Kaminsky’s now famous book, “The Moon Pulled Up an Acre of Bass.” Though the bass were small, the sight was incredible — and sustained. The surface feed continued all day long, from the time we arrived until the time we left.
That ever fish was smaller, and of the exact same age class, is a sign of the mismanagement of our fisheries, but still — it was great to see so many. Without them, there is no future fishery.
