My dad, Hoagy B. Carmichael, was a bamboo rod builder for years. He wrote the famed book A Master’s Guide to Building a Bamboo Fly Rod with Everett Garrison. For years, I grew up with his rod shop in the garage. Its smell and grit was comfort to me. Now, it is on display at the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum. This is a video I made about the book, the shop, and it’s new home.
