Last summer, I finally made the pilgrimage to Martha’s Vineyard to fish the Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby — something that I had wanted to do for years, but had escaped me. I went to fish the Derby not for the two title species, but to fly fish for false albacore, my favorite way to close out the season.

The prior day’s temperature had exceeded 50 — balmy for January. Sunday’s forecast called for high 40’s. With the warm water, clear skies, and snow on the way, we headed south to catch what might be, we thought, one of the last opportunities for reasonably warm winter trout fly fishing in New England.

Howard Films “Running the Coast”

Their film Running the Coast is, according to their press statement, “the first documentary film series to follow the striped bass migration, and the anglers that follow in its wake.” The film does precisely this: over 2 hours and forty-four minutes it follows striped bass along the Eastern seaboard, and features some of the most recognizable names in the sport.
